Planning an Affordable Michigan Wedding

Most brides want a fairytale wedding, complete with all the trimmings and special touches, but a Michigan wedding can run into some pretty substantial expenditures. Planning an affordable Michigan wedding that is still beautiful, romantic and unforgettable means knowing the best ways to save money while still keeping that romantic vision.
We've put together some great tips for saving money on your wedding so you can celebrate in style without ruining your budget as a newly married couple.
1. Shop for your wedding gown early and check out several bridal shops. You may be surprised by the considerable price difference from one shop to another. Ask the sales staff about discontinued gowns or gowns that are from last year's collections. These are often sold at a steep discount and no one but you will know that you found a bargain.
2. Look for a reception location that won't need a lot of decorating. You can have a Michigan wedding at any one of several historical locations and special event venues that are lovely and have wonderful ambiance. You’ll want to find a historic locale with the look and feel of a castle, complete with formal gardens, stonewalls, arched windows and the feel of the Old World, the romance and beauty are already there. No finishing touches will be needed. The prettier the natural setting, the less you'll have to pay to dress it up.
3. Ask your reception hall about what they include in the price. Some locations charge extra for the rental of tables, chairs, candles and linens. Don't forget to consider this; if you find a place that includes these extras in the cost of the location, you'll save money in the long run. Since they have everything on hand, you will eliminate this cost from your catering and decorating budget.
4. Bundle the locations for your Michigan wedding. In other words, find a place that is perfect for the rehearsal dinner, wedding and reception all in one. You'll save a significant amount of money by booking everything together. Reception halls and historic locations love being able to take care of you on your wedding day from beginning to end. They benefit from having two full days of activities at their location, and you benefit from the reduced cost. With less transportation needed, the reduced cost of using the same caterer for both the rehearsal dinner and wedding reception, and the opportunity to streamline everything, will not only save you money, it will save you aggravation. If you host everything in one location, you have fewer contacts to worry about and less confusion. Peace of mind can be priceless when planning your Michigan wedding!
5. Look for a Michigan wedding location that provides you with a facilitator at no extra cost. These are staff members, often certified wedding planners, who work with all their guests to coordinate your special day from beginning to end. Since it's included in the cost of your wedding and reception, you aren't paying out of pocket for your own wedding planner.
6. Remember to look for beautiful photo opportunities. Michigan is filled with locations that feature beautiful gardens and are close to the shore. These make wonderful backgrounds for your wedding photos and are free to use any time. If you find a reception location that has their own gardens and is an easy drive to the shore for additional pictures, you've found a gem.
7. Many Michigan wedding planners save money be recommending that brides pick out their favorite music and put it all on a CD to be used at the wedding ceremony. It's less expensive than hiring professional musicians, and you don't have to worry about no-shows. You're guaranteed to have great music at a reasonable price, and you can pick all your favorite songs. A DJ at the reception is also much less expensive than a live band, and you aren't limited to a particular type of music.
8. If you are planning on hosting an open bar at your Michigan wedding reception, ask if you can bring your own alcohol and supply your own bartender. Hiring a bartender directly eliminates the fee for a middleman, and you'll save hundreds of dollars by buying your own liquor. The mark-up on alcohol, wine and beer is usually substantial.

Everyone enjoys having a memorable bachelor party, many of whom give it their last hurrah that evening before giving up the single life. When planning for a night that may or may not go as expected one thing you should invest in is hiring a limo for bachelor parties. Celebrating in style is a part of the experience that many people remember the most. Aside from the convenience that a limo service offers, the comfort you feel in a luxurious limo will add the extravagance your party is missing.

There is a great new array of more casual wedding dress styles available today - especially during the spring and summer - so you can feel relaxed, comfortable and beautiful on your wedding day. For many women, dressing up in a spectacular wedding gown can be the highlight of their year - for others, the thought of formal bridalwear makes them a little uncomfortable.

Wedding Tipping Etiquette
Posted: Feb 10, 2009 | Views: 533 |
Wedding etiquette is just like any other type of etiquette when it comes to tipping. If you are given a service, it is essential that you provide a tip to the person that is providing it to you.
Tipping is a way of thanking an individual for a job well done. Therefore, if they do not do a good job or there is some large problem that is not able to be rectified, the tip should be lessened or not provided. But, remember that this is the source of income for the service provider.
So, who do you tip and who is supposed to tip them? Here are some general rules to help you to decide what the right way to handle payment in the form of tips is.
Who to Tip
The first thing to take note of is just who you should be tipping. One rule of thumb for this is to take a look at the final bill. Today, most of the opportunities for tips are often applied right to the final bill.
For example, in most restaurants, a large party will have gratuity added to the bill. But, that does not mean that this is the right amount to tip (it may be too high or too low) and it does not mean that you have to pay for it at that level
If you pay gratuity in the final bill of your service provided for your wedding, should you give a tip on top of this to the service provider?
If you feel that the service provider has gone over and beyond what was expected of them, then it can be appropriate to provide them with more of a tip for your needs. If you feel that the tip is not enough, then by all means, a larger tip can and should be left.
But, Which Services And How Much?
Knowing when to tip is just as important. There are several opportunities that you will have to give a tip at. Here's a breakdown of some you should take note of.
- Those that include a tip already in the final bill may be the caterer, the banquet managers, waiters, bartenders, and bridal consultants. Here, a tip is generally about 15%, but should only be provided if the service is over and beyond the standard since you are already tipping them in the bill.
- Your Limousine Driver. You should tip the limo driver for your service. Notice in the contract if there is an amount of gratuity already listed. If so, it is not necessary. If not, or you receive high levels of service, a tip of 15% is appropriate.
- Photographers, florists and musicians. If not provided in the contract, a tip in the amount of 15% to 20% is appreciated. Of course much more is for better service.
- Priests, Rabbis and Clergymen. This is one tip not to be forgotten as it is not provided elsewhere. The groom should provide a tip to be given by the best man to the official. Commonly, this amount should not be less than 0. While it is a donation, it should always be provided. More should be provided if the official had to drive a long distance.
- Civil Service. Since there is no cost set here, it is appropriate to provide a tip of to 0 for the civil servant that is providing the service. Often, there is a suggested donation posted in these offices.
- Musicians and organists at the ceremony. These services may have gratuity in the contract, so make sure that you check first. This is only the case if you actually rent the church for use. If not, then a tip should be provided as well. The tip can range form to depending on the amount of service and the quality that is provided.
Tipping should not be something that is forgotten. If the groom can not remember to do the tipping, then the best man should step in. It is necessary to show appreciation and follow proper etiquette for tipping.

Becoming A Wedding Planner Is No Easy Task
Posted: Mar 01, 2010 |Comments: 0
|
Becoming a wedding planner is no easy task. It may look easy because the course you have to take in order to become one is just as long as black jack dealing school or bartending school. Neither of these professions are as easy as they look either, but wedding planning, I think most everyone would agree, would be the hardest of the three. Getting someone the wrong drink at a bar wouldn't really matter. Dealing someone anything over or under twenty-one isn't the dealer's fault either. In fact, it's usually expected. But misspelling the bride's name on the wedding invitations would get the wedding planner killed or even worse.
Spelling it out for you almost won't be necessary. Weddings these days cost an average of twenty thousand dollars and many people are going to have more than one in their lifetimes. That equals just about enough money to put a kid through an in state college of your choice. If you think about it, most weddings actually take around six months to a year to plan. One day takes that much time. Imagine how many decisions and how many things can actually go wrong. Now imagine all of these things are your responsibility because you are getting paid to make sure everything goes off without a hitch. You have to make sure the wedding flowers are fresh lilies flown in from the highest mountains of Asia. You need to find the photographer who photographed the baby in all of the frames that you buy, and most importantly, you need to find the guest list that will be able to maintain harmony for a period of five to six hours.
Being a wedding planner seems like it would be glamorous and thrilling, but the stress involved would be enough to drive any level headed professional mad. Juggling bride after bride would make even the most logical and cool-headed person want to scream. I would be extra careful if you choose to pursue the path of event planner, especially wedding planning, because you might just get your head chewed off, literally.
When it comes down to it, how many weddings do you think will go wrong before you gain enough experience to get one right? A three-week class isn't going to teach you the necessary things to handle it. Whether it's drunk uncles or missing wedding favors that might wreck everything, I wish you the best of luck.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ - Choosing The Right Wedding Vendors In A Difficult Economy
Now more than ever, it is important to get the most for your money. But a limited budget shouldn't stop you from achieving your dream wedding, if you make the correct choices in several key areas.
It's often been said that it only takes three people to pull off a wedding- the bride, the groom, and the minister. If you want guests and memories, you'll need a few more. The venue, photographer and videographer, and DJ are the critical choices you'll make, and if you choose wisely you'll have an enjoyable and memorable wedding experience.
The most important factor is this: AVOID THE EXTREMES! A good purchasing strategy is to find the five most likely candidates, then eliminate the least expensive and the most expensive, and give a closer look to the three that remain. Chances are very good that the cheapest is the least experienced and qualified, and on the other end you're likely to be overspending for no reason. Let's examine these items in detail.
The Venue-
In an attempt to save money, many folks are opting to have their event hosted at a private facility such as a home. If you're fortunate enough to know someone willing to do this for you, it's off to the races! Just keep in mind that a lot of considerations will pop up along the way. Parking, restrooms, neighbors, zoning and noise ordinances, garbage collection and disposal, and catering and beverage concerns (plates, napkins, glasses and silverware, servers, bartender, liquor license, etc.) are just a few of the many difficulties you'll encounter. Add to that the legal implications of liability based on property damage and injury, and the very real possibility of a lawsuit from the serving of alcohol, and this becomes overwhelming very quickly. That's why it is better to go with a reasonably priced professional wedding and reception facility with experience in all of these matters. You'll save money in the long run and retain your sanity.
The biggest non-secret in the wedding industry? Book your event on any day other than Saturday. This single decision will result in significant savings overall, as most vendors are willing to offer discount pricing on the "off-day" event.
The Photographer and Videographer-
This is the 21st Century, and photos are no longer enough. A wise decision here will give you and your family lasting memories of your special day, and there is no part of your wedding where it is more important not to overspend. If you are considering an egotistical photographer who is charging so much that you can't afford video, then you need to shop around more. A skilled photographer with moderate pricing and an enjoyable personality will be more pleasant to work with, and allow room in your budget for a videographer.
Why is it important to have both? Because photos alone will not convey the depth of emotion found in a falling tear or the crackle of a voice. A well produced wedding video will bring the day immediately back to mind in full sound and color, show many moments that were missed in the commotion, and provide a way to share the entire occasion with out of town people unable to attend, even friends and relatives that you don't have yet.
The DJ-
A good wedding dj does so much more than just play music. They are the uniting aspect who brings all of the components together and provides the rest of what you need for a successful affair. Microphones and sound systems to hear the audio (both music and spoken word), dance lighting for energy and excitement, and event planning and coordination are all elements which they bring, plus a commanding presence to keep things together and moving along as you and your guests progress through the dynamics of the evening.
As with the other main vendors, price should be A consideration, but not the ONLY consideration. Personality and experience are vital, and it is possible to find the best wedding service providers offering the best value if you avoid the least and most expensive ones. Passion, care, and a good work ethic are rarely found at the ends of the pricing spectrum.

Top Five Groomsmen Gifts for a Summer Wedding
Very few things are as synonymous with the summer months as a beautiful summer wedding. While many aspects of wedding planning are sometimes time consuming and overwhelming, not everything has to be difficult. When it comes to finding the perfect gifts for members of your wedding party, consider using the list below of the top five groomsmen gifts for a summer wedding to help put your mind at ease.
Keep It Entertaining
Some men fancy themselves to be phenomenal bartenders in their own home. For these alcohol aficionado’s, consider giving them a gift that enables them to practice their skills whenever they desire.
A bartender kit is a great gift that really lets your groomsmen know how thankful you are for all of their help and support during this exciting time in your lives. A bartender kit in a beautiful wooden case can keep all of its contents neatly organized. Key elements that every bartender kit should possess include a corkscrew, a bottle opener, a pour spout, and a bottle stopper. Another great addition to this bartender kit is a thermometer that ensures that every beverage they serve is chilled to perfection. You can also include an informational book of the most popular drink recipes for them to practice serving you.
Keep It Fun
Some guys love to sit around, drink their favorite beers, smoke celebratory cigars, and play a great game of poker with their closest friends. A great way to thank your groomsmen for all that they have done is by supplying them with a beautiful, personalized, and easily portable poker set.
A perfect poker set will include upwards of three hundred chips constructed from top of the line composite clay as well as professional grade playing cards that you can find on any of the tables in casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. A great poker set will also feature a carrying case made of quality wood that can be personalized with your groomsmen’s name or cover image catering to their specific tastes.
Keep It Working
If one thing is certain, it is that many guys love working with tools. Any man that loves to work with their hands should never be without a handy tool kit, whether they are working around the house or on a big construction site. Consider giving your groomsmen travel tool kits complete with everything they will need to keep their gadgets and gizmos in proper working order. Add the personalization of their initials or monogram to give it that extra special touch.
Keep It Whimsical
Certain groomsmen gifts are practical while others can be just plain fun. What could be more fun for your groomsmen than transforming a simple game room, or garage hangout, into their very own pub? You can do just that by giving the men of the wedding party their very own personalized pub set!
With the right set, you can help the men in your life turn their household pub fantasies into reality. Search for a set that includes a vintage pub sign that proudly displays his name, or a name he would like to create for his pub. The pub set will also include a sixteen ounce stein and a coaster set that are also personalized with his first name, last name, and established year. The coasters can be neatly organized and held in a beautiful mahogany caddy that sits perfectly directly on his bar for whenever he is entertaining friends or family. This could come in handy during those poker nights!
Keep It Organized
There is no better way to help your groomsmen keep all of their technologies together than by giving them a personalized valet made from beautiful quality wood. Convenient slots positioned at the top of the valet will keep the most often needed items such as cash, watches, and keys, readily available and in sight. This, placed near the front door of your home, works as a convenient reminder for your man to not leave without them. The lower pull out drawer of this handy item will keep the technologies that are more expensive completely protected and organized.

Get The Wedding Catering Right

Get The Wedding Catering Right
Wedding catering by and large is a simple straightforward process. And yet hiring a caterer for a lot of people is down right frustrating. It just doesn't have to be that way. Here's some help.
For starters, wedding catering is mainly about the food. So make sure you taste everything before signing on the bottom line. A meal which looks like eye candy in a picture but is lacking flavor at the party will ruin the entire reception.
You will probably find several event caterers wherever you might be dwelling. Quite a few of them will be what's called a complete caterer, providing everything from food, to tableware and equipment rentals. The smaller companies will just have food and maybe some service. The major variance between the two groups is usually price and what they can offer.
A lot of the event catering companies just supply different kinds of food and bartending services. Probably what happened was someone within the organization once worked for such a group and then moved on to make their own business. What's great is you'll have access to just about everyone in the organization, from the cook to the planner. Depending on the company, they will do everything for you or expect you to manage them.
Wedding hall venues and other such large companies normally present packages that keep business inside for convenience and to make more money. From the wedding chapels to the reception rooms and food, these companies have it all. But be forewarned: you will pay for any or all of the conveniences that comes along with the packages.
You might find choices to be limiting with these guys, except when higher priced plans are paid for. This is one reason why independent caterers are popping up all over the place. Like I said beforehand, these smaller companies offer most of every thing you want and are usually more flexible with your requests. However, they probably lack the hall to have the party or reception unless they have a large restaurant. So, you will have to find a suitable place or have them do it for you.
First go get a glimpse on the world wide web or find a wedding planner. The web has its limits but you'll find a large quantity of catering option quickly to review. Getting someone to help you is slower and more costly, but they have the know how to get things done. As with any business, both of these researching methods have their pluses and minuses. As you go along, you will certainly form your own opinions to this.
It's time to get started in looking for wedding catering that meets your wants and needs. It will be a challenge so be prepared. If you're diligent, in time you'll find the perfect wedding catering person or company.
Most all wedding catering companies differ by food, facilities, and staff. Come see how we differentiate our services to make your wedding catering one of a kind. Catering Houston, 5711 Morningside Drive, Houston, TX 77030, (832) 772-7975.
Choosing a Caterer for Your Wedding Reception

Choosing a Caterer for Your Wedding Reception
Your wedding reception is the biggest party you will ever throw so you want to make sure you do it right. Choosing the right caterer is essential. Take it from me not all caterers are created equal.
Here is a list of tips to help your choose a great caterer
1. Get Referrals
A good place to start looking for a caterer is right in your own backyard. Ask your married friends, family and coworkers for referrals. You can also look in your local phone book. When you're interviewing your caterer, ask him/her to supply you with references. If the caterer refuses your request, it may be a good idea to leave and go onto the next interview.
2. Licenses & liability Insurance
Make sure the caterer is licensed in your state and has liability insurance. Insurance is very important in case one of your guests gets food poisoning (God Forbid!), chips a tooth, or is involved in an accident after leaving your reception. If the caterer does not have insurance, ask him/her if you can buy some.
3. Budget
The main thing you must consider is your budget. Before meeting with your caterer know exactly how much money you can afford to spend. A good caterer is creative and will gladly work with you to make sure you can stick to that budget. Do not let the caterer talk you into something you cannot afford as you do not need the extra stress worrying about how to pay for it.
4. Flexibility
Is your caterer flexible? Does he/she listen to your ideas and concerns. Will the caterer serve special food for guests with dietary restrictions such as vegetarians, and people with food allergies. Would the caterer be willing to cook a special family dish?
5. Personality & Style
Do you feel comfortable with the caterer. Do you have similar tastes? Beware of the know-it-all caterer who tries to talk you into something you do not want.
6. Food
Be careful! The caterer will try to sell you the most expensive meal plans. Ask how much each plate will cost. How much food each person will receive. Will you serve hors d'oeuvres and what is the cost?
(Money Saving Tip: Tray pass hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour and serve a lighter meal.)
Don't forget to ask about your wedding cake. Will they make one for you or do you need to bring your own. If the caterer is making the cake, do not assume they know how. Ask if they have any sample cakes you can see. Also you should show the caterer pictures of any cakes you like.
7. Taste Testing the Food
Most caterers will allow you to sample the planned dishes. This is very important as you do not want any surprises at your reception. Also, with any luck you may be able to taste a sample of your wedding cake.
8. Servers
Does the caterer provide waiter and waitresses. You will need approximately one server for every ten guests. Also you should ask what kind of clothes the waitstaff wears. Are you allowed to make wardrobe requests?
9. Decorations
When seeking a caterer you also want to know what types of decorations are offered - tableskirts, linens, centerpieces etc.
10. Place Settings
What does the place setting consist of. A good caterer will gladly show you what the plates, glasses and silverware will look like.
11. Bar
What about beverages. How will you be charged? By consumption or by how many bottles are opened. Exactly what are the charges per bottle. And what are the brands to be served. How many bottles will be served? Will you be refunded money for any unopened bottles?
Money Saving Tips: To reduce your bar tab only serve, beer, wine and soft drinks. You may also consider offering your guests an open bar for the first hour or two and then making them pay for their own drinks.
12. Little extra fees
Be careful of all the little extra fees the caterer will throw at you.
Servers, waiters & hostess fees (plus gratuities) Tableware/Linen Fees Bartender & Bar Fees & (plus gratuities) Overtime fees Cancellation fees ~ Make sure you have the cancellation policy in writing! Extra food fees Policy on champagne. Are there any pouring fees? Cutting Cake fees
To make sure you are not charged for any hidden fees Read your caterer's contract very carefully before signing it. Make sure that all the items mentioned above are clearly stated. If they are not listed, have them written in before signing. Also discuss a payment schedule with your caterer. Never pay for everything in advance. With a little preparation, you can stick to your budget and have the party of your dreams!

7 Things to Consider Before Hiring a Wedding Caterer
7 Things to Consider Before Hiring a Wedding Caterer
Not all wedding caterers are alike. Here are some things you may want to consider before hiring your caterer.
Decide on your priorities. There are many brides and grooms who consider wedding food a necessity and are happy finding a caterer who can provide the most food for the lowest cost. Others may place the food and décor as a higher priority in their spending and decide that having tasty and unique food is something that will be a great memory instead of an afterthought.
Menu design does not involve picking food from columns. Many caterers have pre-set packages of dishes that are used over and over. It's likely that a menu picked from the "A" package will also be utilized for many other weddings. It's your special day; wouldn't you enjoy a special menu? Your caterer should be well versed in menu design and be able to understand your crowd as well as your likes and dislikes.
Your caterer's menus may be outdated. When you are checking out sample menus on the internet, take a look to find out when they were last updated (sometimes you can go to the bottom of the menu). If it has been four years since their wedding menus were updated, you may want to reconsider whether or not that caterer is at the forefront of current trends. You probably have updated your wardrobe in the past four or five years and you certainly are not using outdated wedding decorations, so why serve outdated food?
Your wedding food may have come straight from the food supplier's freezer section. It's true! Ever notice how many caterers in town have similar menus? It's likely that many of the appetizer s like meatballs and crab cakes were bought pre-made and frozen. Sure, it can help the caterer save on labor costs, but keep in mind that sometimes fresh is best. Living in Florida, your guests deserve fresh seafood. Don't settle for second best!
Make sure your caterer is licensed and insured. It is likely that your caterer possesses the proper licensing with the state of Florida as well as general liability insurance, but it is ok to ask. Most venues that host weddings will require proof from the caterer, so you won't have to worry about dealing with the details. However, if your caterer will be providing bartenders to serve your liquor at an approved venue, make sure your caterer has liquor liability insurance, or you could be stuck buying it yourself to cover your one day wedding.
You may get the "B" team from your caterer. Find out how many events will be catered during the time of your reception. If it is more than one, does your caterer have the adequate staff and expertise to provide the same exact same service to all of their events? Or will you be stuck with the second best team.
It's not just about the food. Though caterers tend to be most focused on the food aspect, there is so much more that goes into executing a great wedding reception. Some of the greatest chefs can wow our taste buds, but would be unable to serve that same food to a group of 200 guests; it's all about logistics and planning. How about the service staff? Ask to see photos of past events that include the service staff. The guests at your wedding deserve a clean, congenial server. And is your caterer up to date with the latest trends in catering? If they're not constantly working to make themselves better, do they deserve your business?
