Drink Up at These Fine New Orleans Establishments

New Orleans is known for having a unique culture and a very active nightlife with much of the nighttime entertainment happening on Bourbon Street. People can go and explore the distinctive way of life here, and do so without having to ever venture on Bourbon Street if that is not their thing. For those of you that cannot think of a trip to New Orleans without visiting this infamous street then you need to try at least one of these well know concoctions. Maybe you have tried some of these drinks before and loved them and are looking for something new to try or maybe you have never even heard of them, either way your taste buds are in for quite the treat. So, kick back, relax, and try one or all of these special mixed drinks. We have even included the recipes so that you can make your own at home, although it is never the same as the real deal.
1.
Drink: The Pimm's Cup
New Orleans Restaurant: Napoleon House
Drink Recipe: Fill a 12-oz glass with ice and add 1-1/4 oz of Pimm's #1 and 3 oz of lemonade. Top it off with 7-Up or ginger ale and garnish it with a cucumber.
Although it is hard to recreate the original you can try to mix up this drink at home using this recipe. Only six people know the actual secret recipe, but this one will give you a good idea of what the real cocktail tastes like. This tasty beverage that people enjoy today was first used in the late 1800's to help with digestion. This gin-based drink recipe calls for dry gin, liqueur, fruit juices, and spices. Come check out this fine New Orleans restaurant and take in the history of it while sipping on your spicy, fruity brew. The name for this 200 year old establishment comes from the fact that it was offered as a refuge to Napoleon during his exile in 1821, and it has since become one of the most popular bars to visit.
2.
Drink: The Goody/Vieux Carre
New Orleans Restaurant: Carousel Bar in the Hotel Monteleone
Drink Recipe: 1-oz each dark rum, light rum, Orgeat, 2-oz orange juice, 1-oz pineapple juice
Vieux Carre Recipe: 1/2 teaspoon Benedictine, dash of Peychaud, dash Angostra, 1/3 shot each rye whiskey, cognac and dry vermouth
The Carousel Bar is quite popular as it was voted best bar in New Orleans by National Geographic. It is unique in the fact that it is a revolving bar and it makes one complete revolution every 15 minutes. Many famous people have frequented this bar such as Truman Capote, William Faulkner, Tennessee Williams, and Michael Jordan. It is said that Vieux Carre and The Goody were mixed up by bartenders working at this bar and they helped to make these drinks famous.
3.
Drink: The Hurricane
New Orleans Restaurant: Pat O'Briens[
Drink Recipe: Although you can buy the exact mix used at each Pat O'Briens location, you can also mix up your own recipe. You'll need 2-oz of light rum, 2-oz of dark rum, 2-oz of passion fruit juice, 1-oz of orange juice, just from half a lime, 1-tbsp of simple syrup, 1-tbsp of grenadine and an orange slice and cherry for garnish.
In 1933 Pat O'Brien opened this establishment where locals could come to enjoy a legal drink as prohibition was coming to a close at this time. This bar really became famous when they introduced their new cocktail, the Hurricane in the 1940's. It is said that no trip to New Orleans is complete without visiting Pat O'Briens for a traditional Hurricane. You can make this drink at home using their New Orleans signature drink mix, and you can even take home a signature glass as well. This drink is famous, exceptionally good, extremely sweet, and contains a high amount of alcohol so consume with caution.

Cocktail: A Great Mixed Drink

A cocktail is a mixed drink that is popular all over the world. It is a liquor composed of different flavoring agents like honey, milk, sauces, spices, cream and sauces. Even though it has been prohibited in the U.S., it still became very popular. Most bartenders are combining alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages with the drink and this makes it dangerous to consume.
The old versions of cocktails were created by mixing whisky, gin or rum along with a bit of vodka. This type of mixed drinks came to the surface during 1980's and one traditional way of making cocktails is mixing it with gin such as gimlet or martini. In October 2005, Dr. David Wonderich coined the term cocktail.
One great benefit that you can get from cocktail is being relieved from head aches. Cocktail is known as bitter sling for it is mainly composed of water, sugar and bitter agents. The cocktail serves mainly those who are brave at heart. Someone who can take the challenge of consuming cocktail in just one sip can stand at almost any drink.
Cocktails are available in many recipes, each one having a one of a kind taste. It all depends upon the taste of bar owners, but you can commonly see these types at bars: Flips, Toddies, Cobblers, Slings Sours, Punchers, etc.
Compared to other drinks, cocktail has a smaller amount of alcohol content. The prices of cocktails and drinks significantly vary. Cocktails are now prepared differently, mixing other types of drinks like whisky, gin, milk and cream. Water is no longer included in the list. Different regions prepare cocktails in different manners.
Cocktails are served appropriately using a cocktail glass, depending on the type of cocktail drink created. Some common cocktail glasses include Champagne, High Ball, Low Ball, Margarita, Martini, Wine, Shot and Rocks glasses. They are designed in a special manner to prevent a sudden change in temperature.

Beer Cocktails – Variety Is the Spice of Life
For most beer lovers, drinking a cold one is a reward in itself, whether you choose to drink it from a goblet, mug, flute glass, weizen glass, stange or (heaven forbid) right from the bottle. However, some drinkers are standing things on their ear. Beer cocktails are becoming more and more popular - these do quite a bit more than just transfer that beautiful beverage to a container to better enhance the head, aroma and flavor.

Bartenders â What They Think When You Ask For a Drink
Posted: Apr 22, 2010 |Comments: 0

They are the gatekeepers of a good night, standing behind their bar fortresses, deciding who will be the next person served, and who will just have to wait. Most people agree that one of the unavoidable hassles of heading to your favourite bar or nightclub is the line up for drinks, which ironically is worse the more popular the venue is â however be that as it may, the wait is generally worth it. The elite bar and nightclub enthusiast knows that there are tricks to get served quicker, which largely involves getting on good terms with the person behind the bar, ensuring that when it's your round, you spend more time drinking and less time waiting in line sobering up.
To assist the bar and nightclub novices, we decided to interview an ex bartender to find out what makes them tick and get the down low on how to get served first time, every time:
1.Cash out â No wallets.
They're busy and you want to get drunk quickly so this one should be a no brainer. If your money is ready to go, then everyone is happy. Sounds obvious, but after 4 or 5 drinks it can get a little tricky.
2.Don't shout or complain
The biggest mistake a bar or nightclub enthusiast can make. If for some reason someone gets served before you don't crack the shits at the bartender. Chances are it's an honest mistake rather than a vendetta against you. If this happens to you suck it up and move on (the other person probably read this article already)
3.Make eye contact
Subtle yet effective, if you make eye contact with the bartender then you are in for sure. Once you've made eye contact, the person behind the bar knows your ready to order and has a reason to serve you, rather than having to select someone from the sea of flailing arms.
4.Lean forward (for girls)
If it's a guy behind the bar, and you're a girl⦠well⦠you get the picture.
5.Decide what you want before you get served
Whatever you do, don't wait for the person behind the bar to ask what you want before making up your mind. This is probably one of the most annoying things in the world and slows everyone down. Think about it before you get the bar, and if you haven't decided just order a glass of wine or a beer⦠you can't go wrong.
6.Don't order vodka, lemon, lime and bitters
This has been voted the most annoying drink to make, so don't order it, because the person behind the bar will remember you and be less inclined to serve you next time â in anycase after 5 it tasted the same as a vodka and lemon.
7.Tip after your 1st drink
Call it a tip, call it a bribe, if you give them money they will want to serve you quicker â pretty straight forward but very effective.
8.Always say "Thank you"
Hmmmmmmm just because you're drunk doesn't mean manners goes should go out the proverbial window. Say thank you as you will be one of the few tat do, and be remembered for it.

Drink Mnemonics Memory System

The job of bartending is a complex one that is not given much regard as it should. Little wonder that nowadays there are bartender schools established to pass on bartending skills and techniques that have been amassed over a considerable period of time. These establishments are there and ready to ensure that professional standards are instilled in this occupation.
Loaded only with bartender courses, schools seek to provide the much needed tutelage. One bartending skill that is key to performing well in is the ability to retain a lot of information on drink recipes and drink mixes that are in the bar’s supply. This is especially the case in those major bars that have a considerable stockpile of drinks.
Bartending careers are as practical as it gets. Even though bartender schools and bartender courses are good for introduction people into the business, learned bartending skills will still require practice and commitment if you want to maintain and improve the skills in your bartending resume. In this regard, using the Drink Mnemonics Memory System to retain information on bartender drinks and drink recipes is one of the most efficient ways available today.
The science behind the Drink Mnemonics Memory System has its roots deeply based in the practice of psychological conditioning. Mnemonics use repetitions and the development of easy-to-remember constructs. This makes it easier to recall memorized items. This is a very profitable bartending skill.
Mastering the art of mix drink mnemonics can be done without help from tutors. The list of drink and cocktail recipes that come along with the job is quite wide. Using the Drink Mnemonics Memory System is the best way to condition your memory for the task of delivering customer drink orders. Bars are, at best, busy environments that provide a very challenging atmosphere. With so many customers ordering all manner of bartender drinks and drink mixes, the bartender needs to remember fast to keep from being overwhelmed. Newly developed methods such as the Bartender Audio Memorization System trains bartenders in improving their mix drink memory.
This system uses audio modes to pass along the mnemonics of drinks that are already commonly used in bars. Although the basic way of learning bartender drink names, types and recipes has been by reading them on hard copy, this method provides an easier way of remembering and applying mix drink mnemonics in day to day bartending activities.
Common mnemonics used in bartending are, for example, using the name “Presbyterian” to stand for whiskey and ginger ale drink mix. How such mnemonics are arrived at is a case to be considered at another time. All that is needed here is a confirmation that such mnemonics really do work in bartender training. The Drink Mnemonics Memory System could be just the thing to help you meet with more success in bartending than you ever imagined. With it, you might not even need to attend bartender school any more at all.

Being a good bartender is easy, being an educated bartender takes hours of practice and parrot learning. Being able to make a drink a customer will ask for no matter how strange the drink may be is what will separate you from the rest of the crowd. With so many drinks on the market how does one go about learning and more importantly trying to remember so many drinks what to a sane individual would all be the same. Begin with a pen and paper!
There’s a reason why bartenders are considered to be such high risk personal to cover by insurance companies, because we are! The truth is we are not sane people; we are an individual who thrive under pressure and that’s why every drink is unique. Ask a barman to recommend a drink and a 45minuite conversation will ensue about strength, texture, color and even the bitterness of the respective drink being scrutinized.
With all these recipes that you can learn none will be as effective as creating your own. Entering the night life with intent to build a career from it will only further advance your career if you create your own drinks. An example of this is in Bloemfontein, South Africa. Jager bombs are common drink through out the world. Being Jagermeister in a shot glass placed in a tumbler glass. The tumbler glass is then filled to the rim of the tot glass with a fizzy energy drink. A bartender created the budget bomb. The budget bomb follows the same principle but instead of Jagermeister they use cheap brandy. He also replaced the energy drink with a local beer.
There is however a standard, one that most barmen should know or at lest have a list in case they don't remember.
Alabama Slammer
30ml Amaretto
30ml Southern comfort
1 dash lemon juice
Directions
Mix the Amaretto and southern comfort in a mixing jar filled with ice. Pour in a chilled cocktail glass. Add dash of lemon juice to the cocktail glass, stir and serve.
American Beauty
1 Table spoon of orange juice.
1 table spoon of grenadine
15ml Vermouth (Dry)
15ml Brandy
1 splash crème de Menthe (White)
1 dash port
Directions
Pour all ingredients in mixing jar with ice and shake. Pour contents into a cocktail glass and add the dash of port at the end.
Bahama Mama
1 dash Amaretto
1 dash Grenadine
60ml Pineapple juice
60ml Rum
2ml Sugar syrup
1 slice of pineapple
1 quarter apple
Directions
Mix fruit first and blend according to texture desired. Then add all contents to the blender and mix accordingly. Pour drink over crushed ice and serve with cherry garnish.
Bloody Mary
30ml vodka
1 dash Tabasco sauce
1 dash lemon juice
1 dash Worcestershire sauce
120ml Tomato juice
Salt and Pepper (Depends on customer)
Directions
Pour all the contents into a glass filled with ice. Then stir contents and add tomato juice. Stir again properly. Add salt and pepper as to customer’s discretion.

Structured settlements started coming into being during the 1980's, when courts awarded amounts to be paid to plaintiffs and the person charged with this amount could not afford the entire lump sum immediately. Then, the structured settlement was born, where this lump sum would be paid of in a particular schedule of time. This included weekly, monthly or yearly payments depending on the contract signed between the two people in the legal action.

Getting cash for a structured settlement payment
Most of the individuals who are awarded structured settlement plans are very unwise and do not wish to wait for the number of years for the full amount to be paid out, especially if it is a structured settlement payment plan that has been decided to be paid out over the beneficiaries entire life-time. These people want the entire amount to be paid out rather in one big sum, rather then getting however many smaller sums.

Bartenders - What They Think When You Ask For A Drink
