Bartenders â What They Think When You Ask For a Drink
Posted: Apr 22, 2010 |Comments: 0

They are the gatekeepers of a good night, standing behind their bar fortresses, deciding who will be the next person served, and who will just have to wait. Most people agree that one of the unavoidable hassles of heading to your favourite bar or nightclub is the line up for drinks, which ironically is worse the more popular the venue is â however be that as it may, the wait is generally worth it. The elite bar and nightclub enthusiast knows that there are tricks to get served quicker, which largely involves getting on good terms with the person behind the bar, ensuring that when it's your round, you spend more time drinking and less time waiting in line sobering up.
To assist the bar and nightclub novices, we decided to interview an ex bartender to find out what makes them tick and get the down low on how to get served first time, every time:
1.Cash out â No wallets.
They're busy and you want to get drunk quickly so this one should be a no brainer. If your money is ready to go, then everyone is happy. Sounds obvious, but after 4 or 5 drinks it can get a little tricky.
2.Don't shout or complain
The biggest mistake a bar or nightclub enthusiast can make. If for some reason someone gets served before you don't crack the shits at the bartender. Chances are it's an honest mistake rather than a vendetta against you. If this happens to you suck it up and move on (the other person probably read this article already)
3.Make eye contact
Subtle yet effective, if you make eye contact with the bartender then you are in for sure. Once you've made eye contact, the person behind the bar knows your ready to order and has a reason to serve you, rather than having to select someone from the sea of flailing arms.
4.Lean forward (for girls)
If it's a guy behind the bar, and you're a girl⦠well⦠you get the picture.
5.Decide what you want before you get served
Whatever you do, don't wait for the person behind the bar to ask what you want before making up your mind. This is probably one of the most annoying things in the world and slows everyone down. Think about it before you get the bar, and if you haven't decided just order a glass of wine or a beer⦠you can't go wrong.
6.Don't order vodka, lemon, lime and bitters
This has been voted the most annoying drink to make, so don't order it, because the person behind the bar will remember you and be less inclined to serve you next time â in anycase after 5 it tasted the same as a vodka and lemon.
7.Tip after your 1st drink
Call it a tip, call it a bribe, if you give them money they will want to serve you quicker â pretty straight forward but very effective.
8.Always say "Thank you"
Hmmmmmmm just because you're drunk doesn't mean manners goes should go out the proverbial window. Say thank you as you will be one of the few tat do, and be remembered for it.

The School For Bartenders: What's In It For Me

Tom Cruise makes it look easy in the movie Cocktail but tending bar is an acquired skill. It demands plenty of practice and know how and that's where bartender school comes in. This career is growing in popularity and prestige and the many schools are in a competitive market. Bar work is attractive to many people because of the flexible hours, social contact and the opportunity to earn good money with salary and tips.
The better establishments in the leisure industry can afford to pick the best and it's essential to choose a school with an excellent reputation. A good bartender school will help a student to find a job in addition to teaching the skills required. On hands tuition with the aid of an actual bar is of equal importance to classroom lessons and theory. Bartenders need to look comfortable in their domain and have an easy rapport with their customers.
The student will learn the basics of mixology, a term to describe the mixing of drinks. Cocktails are of course, a part of this knowledge and there will be sessions on cutting fruit, preparing garnishes and decorating various concoctions. There are hundreds of cocktail recipes, including the popular Tequila Sunrise, Screw Driver and Apple Martini. The bartender must be familiar with the different wine, whiskey and liquors available. Wine is an entire subject in itself with lessons on decanting and allowing wine to breathe. Beer drinkers must also be catered for and bartender school will teach how to serve a draft beer and how to tap a keg.
Bar work demands a knowledge of terminology used in the trade and an understanding of what equipment to use and which type of glass to select. Customers may ask for a chaser, a highball or something on the rocks. The bartender will need to know when to use a shooter, beer stein or fluted champagne glass. There are a lot of gadgets behind the bar, including cocktail shakers, corkscrews, ice buckets and electric blenders.
All this knowledge must be combined with the ability to work quickly and to process orders correctly. Bartender school will teach the whole process, from setting up the bar to closing down. Some areas require that bartenders have undergone alcohol awareness study. Bar owners also look for the ability to increase a bar's profits and to maintain good customer service. In conclusion, the bartender school will equip the graduate to prepare for job interviews and to compile an impressive resume.

Casino Jobs in Atlantic City - Dealers, Bartenders, Internships

If you live in the Eastern parts of the U.S. and you are considering a casino job, Atlantic City may be the first thing that comes to mind. When you think of casinos in Atlantic City, Donald Trump is at the top of the list. The second largest gambling city has endless opportunities. Some have training programs, internships, and hands-on training. Besides working on the casino floor bartending, waiting, or dealing, there are many other employment opportunities available, some of which require extensive knowledge and/or degrees.
Trump Entertainment Resorts, comprised of Trump Plaza, Trump Marina and Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic runs a tight ship and offers many opportunities to work your way up the corporate ladder. They offer an excellent three-month internship program.
Internship positions are paid .00 per hour. Interns receive free meals during their scheduled shift. They are provided free uniforms and free dry cleaning (for required positions). They are also offered cash scholarships for the top students at the end of the program.
The Trump Mentoring Program provides seasonal positions in which you will received 2.5 hours of voluntary training classes (finance, interviewing, customer service, and marketing), and you will be working up to 40 hours per week. This is an eight-week program, which begins in early June. There is limited housing available at a minimum cost for those living over two hours away.
This is a great way to get your foot in the door of one of the top-notch groups.
There are requirements, which include:
1. You must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, undergraduate or graduate.

Hello,
My name is Radek. I leave in Poland. I am a Computer Science engineer.
I am a computer engineer. I'm interested in your job as a
Slot Technician and Casino Manager. I worked in this position for 3
years for a company Onboard Leisure on Irish Ferries. I have very good
experience as a Slot Technician. I was responsible for repair and
maintenance of video and slot machines. Exchange and clearance of money
from the change machine. I explained to passengers how to play on the
machines and how to pay with cash prize machines. I think that I am the
right person for the position of slot technician.
Regards
Radek

Top Tips for Getting a Hospitality Job: Bartenders

Get your RSA Online, follow our tips ... and shine!
Let's face it, bartending is a pretty cool job! Mixing drinks, sliding suavely from one end of the bar to the other, being a ready ear for lonely guys and girls alike. If you're good with people, have a decent level of self-confidence and can handle a fast-paced work environment and challenges, you could be a great bartender. Today we check out some top tips for landing a bartending job, whether you have experience or not - everything from getting your RSA online to pulling off a fantastic interview.
Complete Your RSA Course Online
Having the basics in place is an essential step on the road to getting a job as a bartender. If you haven't completed an RSA course online, don't stress - you can complete it in little more than half a day, at a massive range of flexible times. Good providers will allow you to download your certificate instantly once you've completed the requirements for the RSA online - so there's no need to watch the perfect job just float past!
Consider a Bartending Course
Bartending courses often take only about four weeks to complete. Your bartending course may incorporate completing your RSA course online. An added bonus of bartending schools is that they often have work placement services, and your teachers serve as contacts into the industry. If you shine in the classroom, you might just have a ready-made job at the end of it!
Should I Make Up References?
This practice seems to be sadly common in the bartending world. Naturally, it's not advisable ... you'll end up with a poor reputation if you are either found to be lying in your interview, or you get the job but then can't perform the main duties to the standard your employer expects.
Tell a Story in Your Cover
Letter Use real-life examples, your job progressions and stories from previous experience to illustrate why you would make a great employee. There could be two dozen people all going for the same job as you, each saying that they're "Highly experienced, dedicated to their work, and have a fantastic attitude". Tell a story to get your cover letter noticed, and use the solid credentials of an RSA course online to back up that story in your resume.
Remember That It's About Attitude, Not Experience
Not Experience Experience is always fabulous. But in the hospitality industry, most managers know that attitude goes much further than experience does - somebody who's been a terrible bartender for 10 years is obviously less desirable than someone who's freshly completed their RSA course online, but is positive and ready to serve customers. If you don't have any on-the-job experience, remember this in your interview and stress your personality factors.
Offer an Unpaid Trial
Managers are always worried that the person they hire will be the one that interviews well and is convincing ... but doesn't have the work ethic to back it up. You can allay your potential employer's worries by offering to complete an unpaid trial shift, with no obligations. Get the basics in place by completing your RSA course online, then let them see you in action ... you'll be mixing Bloody Marys before you know it!

A Bartenders Guide To Mobile Bartending
Posted: Mar 02, 2010 |Comments: 0
|
Are you interested in starting the exciting and lucrative career choice of Mobile Bartending? Nothing is quite as exciting as pouring drinks and entertaining guests at a wedding, backyard birthday or other special event and getting paid massive tips!
What is Mobile Bartending?
Mobile bartending simply means you provide services that can travel to places where a client or customer request you to appear to bartend for them. You will find yourself pouring drinks at weddings, birthday parties, corporate events, and more! You may do the bartender's job or you can hire bartenders to do the job for you. People love to throw parties, and they are always looking for a bartender! The important role you must do is provide services that customers may want.
What you need to start a mobile bartending business?
The greatest thing about Mobile Bartending is that there are very little start-up costs! Below is a list of the ESSENTIAL items you'll need to get started by this very weekend:
* Cocktail shaker
* Corkscrew/wine-opener
* Nice clothes (all black collared shirt works!)
* Basic Mixing Knowledge
* A Smile and a Pleasant Personality
THAT'S IT! Sure there is more you can get such as a portable bar, and other mixing tools, but you are being paid for your service of mixing and pouring cocktails, and that's all you really need! Again, you can add more optional equipments for an additional fee like shaker, drink service mat, strainer, shot jigger and etc.
How do I get Get Clients & Book Gigs?
There are several ways to get started without spending very much money on advertising. To begin, let all of your friends and family know what you are doing. Try to land a gig or two at a discounted price from a friend, neighbor or anyone in your "Sphere of Influence." From here, you can promote your business AT the event WHILE you're bartending.
I also suggest getting business cards as quickly as possible, and then proceed to get your website online. Contact caterers, event planners and DJs and trade contact information with them and encourage referrals.
For now, try to avoid paying more for advertising, there are plenty of free ways to promote your business!

What do baby boomers want? That is quite the question! Probably the most important things baby boomers are looking for are talked about within this article. So many times people try to market to baby boomers and my guess is they are not one so it becomes harder trying to figure out what they want...just like if I was going to try and talk with young kids...other than my way is a bit easier because I have been one at one time...

How a (new) company should look like from the in and outside
Doing and starting a business these days is a challenge itself. The idea phase isn't really that hard but it's definitely a turning point in your life certainly when you're a rookie in the field of business. The idea phase and its initial start should inspire you wherever and whenever you are. Inspiration can surface anywhere. For instance I get a lot of inspiration when driving (with obviously looking at the road).

Read in a bartender guide that customers prefer bartenders who read newspapers?
Saturday
Dec 25, 2010
Question by Castle: Read in a bartender guide that customers prefer bartenders who read newspapers?
and who are up on the news in society, as they may not have time to read themselves so they go to a bar just to learn about current events from bartenders, is this true? What kinds of bars function this way? certainly not night clubs?
and what if you do not like to read newspapers?

Answer by HKPhooey
Speaking from experience behind the bar, basically it depends on the type of bar that you are working at. Always good to keep up to date, dont have to get it from a news paper though. Stay away from religion and politics. And being a guy, most customers came in asking for final scores, and who won what game, who are they playing next, who has been traded where... Just try and figure out what kind of people go to your bar and you should be fine

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ - What You Should Know About The Bartenders
Barkeeps are as old as pubs and taverns. In olden days, they worked under a different name, but they still had the same job. Today, the bartenders reflect the image of the establishments in which they work and influence the atmosphere of their working environment.
A happy bartender makes happy customers, and an unhappy bartender can make unhappy customers. A barman or barmaid not only creates the drinks, as well as serving those sitting at the bar, sometimes they are the entertainment for the bar itself.
At some bars, the bartenders are expected to be flair bartenders, by tossing the bottles and glasses in the air and putting on a huge show for the customers. If you have ever seen movies, such as Coyote Ugly or Cocktail, then you probably noticed that they had interesting approaches to keeping their customers happy and entertained. Bartenders with flair do their part to ensuring a steady flow of customers.
Another way that bartenders do this is by simply remembering the drinks that their patrons order. If a bartender can get to know a customer and remember to match the face with their favorite drink, then they will no doubt establish a long time patron.
People like the familiarity that this brings to them; it also makes them feel welcome in the establishment. Bartenders are also normally versed in many mixed drink recipes and can make recommendations to those who are not sure what they want to try.
One of the myths surrounding the bartenders of today is that they are all great listeners. This was truer of bygone days because the bartender could spend more time with each customer. While it is true of some bartenders today, most bartenders are kept busy just filling the many customers' glasses.
Another part to being a great barman or female bartender is their ability to remember the specific drinks that each customer likes best. Customers like to be remembered, and this is one of the best ways to build up customer loyalty. Bartenders also know many drinks and can recommend one for an unsure customer to try. This also builds customer loyalty.
When you visit a bar, try to notice the bartenders who are working there. Do they entertain? Do they have a particular flair about them? The bartender, however, may simply do his normal bartending duties, mixing drinks and taking the drink orders.
If you simply are looking for an after work drink or are looking to socialize with your friends, then the type of bartender you have might not matter. However, if you are looking for a truly entertaining experience, then finding a bar with flair bartenders can be a real treat.
