Bar

Playing with lighting can bring out the beauty that is buried when only a hurried look is taken... Taken in a Bar in Barreiro.
This photo took about two hours to get the lighting correct. The blue light you see on the mirror was very faint, so I had to dim all other lights to bring it out and do a 20 second exposure. The other lights illuminating the scene are a ceiling lights dimmed to a minimum and a candle in the middle of the composition.
This photo is BEST VIEWED LARGE, as there is an incredible amount of detail.
It has not been processed in any way, it is a jpeg straight out of the camera.

i like the colors but everything seems too cluttered and noisy, the blue background is very distracting in my perspective.

Note that this photo was made to make a 20×30 poster, therefore the deep DOF. Try seeing it really large to appreciate the sharpness and level of detail, like being able to read the small writting on the absolute bottles….

Very nice, very surprising, I love the contrast blue / orange.
The aircond on the top is not really cool but I like it.

How’d you get those bottles to stay still for 20 seconds?
This is really good. My only thought is a little judicious cropping to get a more balanced overall composition.

You think I would have fucked around with the light for 2 hours to make this photo if I wasn’t drunk? I used to own this bar, so drinks were real cheap!

Really great dof and i love the colors. the subject matter isn’t that interesting to me however the lighting does it for me. Its a little cluttered, there is just stuff everywhere but at the same time i do really respect this photo. Nice work.

Good colour and light. THe contrast between the warm oranges and cold blues is very atractive. Very crispy. Nor the composition nor the lighting ( very flat ) appeals to me…

The scene is too cluttered and the composition looks a bit random. I like the overall result of the long exposure, though.

The colors are great and the detail is amazing.
Reducing the bottles to a single row or having msaller bottle upfront and bigger bottles on a stand ont he back would make it look more like a bar.
I dont like the lights in the blue background. also the clutter in the blue mirror is high and should be controlled as anyway this is a setup shot.
I would have loved to see a few glasses upright with the light through them to give that drama to the picture. The lemons and the oranges in the picture dont add to the mood.
Also a square on shot with the reflection of the camera hidden in the pillar in the middle would have been nicer so that the table it not crooked.

my first thought when i saw this was it’s just a bit too cluttered .. sorry ! nice bright and vibrant colours though, also the lighting works for me as it’s redeeming features .. and i think it looks better smaller but i’m not sure if that is a good point .. or not ?

The image quality is really amazing for a "not post processed" longtime exposure. The color composition is interesting but the image makes my eyes very restless on the search of an interesting point to stay. Here I would say less is more, relating to the amount of elements. Maybe the image would be more quiet if the background is a bit blurred or more darkened. But it’s a nice work!

phew. that sounds like a lot of work.
but visually, despite the really saturated colour scheme, it doesn’t make sense. there’s nothing human here, no story, it’s just some bottles and some lighting. i can’t believe people actually work this bar, or drink there.
